Strain Review: Kandy Kush
Kandy Kush is among the more popular strains of cannabis, offering a combination of the genetics of two favorites. The strain is a hybrid that is technically indica dominant, although there have been notes of sativa phenotypes that include more of the sativa parentage from Trainwreck.Â
Kandy Kush is part of the Reserva Privada line from DNA Genetics. Its parent strains are the previously mentioned Trainwreck and OG Kush. Many believe that it is the Christopher Wallace cut of the OG Kush that went into the strain’s parentage.Â
Potency
This strain of cannabis is moderately potent, with a typical THC concentration of 18 to 20 percent. The CBD content is minimal, at approximately zero percent. As such, this strain should appeal more to users who want the psychoactive effects of THC than those who are interested in the potential benefits of CBD.Â
Appearance
As a plant, the Kandy Kush strain is thin and tall. Its buds are large and sticky, giving off the lemon scent that the plant’s terpenes are associated with. The nugs are lumpy and shaped like popcorn. Those buds are olive green featuring many thin orange hairs. This is all covered in a thick coating of frosty milky white trichome crystals.Â
Of course, there can be dramatic variations in appearance based on the phenotype of Kandy Kush that you have. It may have a circular shape reminiscent of the OG Kush strain, or it can be more oblong, which it gets from Trainwreck. The commonality is that all Kandy Kush plants will be dense, as this is a trait it gets from both parents.Â
Flavor and AromaÂ
The name Kandy Kush gives you an idea of the flavor to expect, as the strain is known for its sweetness that is reminiscent of candy, combined with the lemon associated with Kush. The primary aromas and flavors are citrus, followed by peppery hints and herbal.Â
This sweet flavor can make it incredibly tempting for users to consume too much at first, as it tastes like candy. As strong as that temptation is, you should do your best to avoid going through with it, at least the first time you use it, as this can lead to an overpowering high.Â
Unsurprisingly, the flavors and aromas associated with Kandy Kush match each other, both featuring sweetness, fruitiness, and earthiness.Â
There is also some variation in the aroma, depending on which parent is favored. Those that favor OG Kush will have more lemon and piney sweetness with hints of fuel. Those that favor Trainwreck will be more piney, herbal, and floral, with hints of pepper.Â
Smoking It
As you smoke Kandy Kush, you are likely to notice that the smoke is relatively smooth, something that many consumers appreciate.Â
Effects
Kandy Kush is very popular among those looking for medicinal cannabis. When you consume it, you will typically experience a strong body high that is combined with significant pain relief. Users typically report that the high is quick-acting, so you should be ready to experience the effects of Kandy Kush almost right away.Â
In most cases, consuming Kandy Kush will lead to an intense cerebral high that produces dopamine to lift the mood. From there, it transitions into a lazy body high that is heavy. Others describe the effects as a high that creeps into existence, starting slowly with building euphoria to enhance your mood while giving you calmness and happiness. Once the head high builds, you will feel a body buzz powerfully take over, doing so quickly. At this point, you will likely feel couch-locked and fully sedated, so make sure you are in a comfortable spot before this effect of Kandy Kush starts taking hold.Â
Those who use Kandy Kush report feeling happy, relaxed, euphoric, and uplifted. Some people also report feelings of hunger. Many users also report feelings of creativity after consuming Kandy Kush, helping them be productive. Others report feeling tired and extremely relaxed, which is why many people choose to consume Kandy Kush in the evening or night before going to sleep.Â
Medical marijuana patients who consider using Kandy Kush will typically do so to experience relief from stress, pain, anxiety, depression, nausea, and insomnia. Others note that it has helped them overcome uncomfortable and mobility-reducing muscle spasms. Some users even notice reductions in inflammation when consuming Kandy Kush semi-regularly, including a decrease in acne scars and eczema and a reduction in gum inflammation. The ability to cause hunger also makes Kandy Kush a popular choice for people trying to overcome a lack of appetite.
Some users who suffer from a combination of the above conditions notice that smoking Kandy Kush clears away the pain that prevents them from focusing, along with the ADHD that can further hinder concentration. This lets users act on the energy and optimism they have to complete a project, which would otherwise be sidelined by pain or ADHD.Â
As expected, there are some adverse effects associated with consuming Kandy Kush, but the results are similar to most strains of cannabis. The most common side effect is dry mouth, followed by dry eyes. Both of these are expected by anyone who smokes cannabis, regardless of their favorite strain. They are also easily remedied by keeping a glass of water, and some eye drops nearby. Although less common, some people even experience dizziness, headaches, and anxiety.Â
GrowingÂ
If you want to try your hand at growing Kandy Kush, you should keep in mind that the flowering phase will last 9 to 10 weeks. You can grow it inside or outside, depending on your preferences. The yields of Kandy Kush can be as high as 500 grams for every 1,000 watts or square meters.Â
Other Information to Know
Kandy Kush holds the honor of winning the first competition for the Western Slope Cannabis Crown. This competition was in Aspen, Colorado. The strain that won this Crown was not grown by the original Kandy Kush breeder, DNA Genetics. Instead, Rocky Mountain Remedies grew it. Rocky Mountain Remedies was Northwestern Colorado’s first legal marijuana dispensary.Â
